A Gram-negative, beige pigmented aerobic, motile club-shaped bacterium, CC-SBABM117T, was isolated from a stipe of an edible mushroom Agaricus blazei Murrill. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis demonstrated that it shared < 93% sequence similarity with the species in the genera Pannonibacter, Methylopila, Nesiotobacter and Stappia. The organism was unable to produce acid from carbohydrates, but it could utilize a number of organic acids and amino acids. Ubiquinone 10 (Q10) was the major respiratory quinone and C18:1
7c, 19:0 cyclo
8c, C 16:0, and C18:0 3-OH were the predominant fatty acids. C14:0 3-OH was absent. This fatty acid profile distinguished the new isolate from the members of the genera Pannonibacter, Methylopila, Nesiotobacter, Stappia, Roseibium and Labrenzia. The predominant polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine. Sulphoquinovosyldiacylglyceride and phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine were absent. Two unknown phospholipid and an unknown glycolipid occurred as minor components. The DNA G+C content of strain CC-SBABM117T was 62 ± 1 mol%. On the basis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and of the chemotaxonomic and physiological data, strain CC-SBABM117T represents a new genus and species for which the name Agaricicola taiwanensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CC-SBABM117T (=BCRC 17964T=CCM7684T).
