Proposal of Brevundimonas vancanneytii sp. nov. isolated from blood of a patient with endocarditis

The Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria strain LMG 2337T, isolated from blood of a patient with endocarditis, was characterized. The strain affiliated within the alphaproteobacterial genus Brevundimonas with B. diminuta (98.3% 16S rRNA gene identity) and B. terrae (97.5%) as their closest relatives. This affiliation was supported by chemotaxonomic data (G+C 66.3%, major polar lipids: phosphatidyl-diacylglycerol, sulfoquinovosyl-diacylglycerol and phosphatidyl-glucopyranosyl-diacylglycerol; major fatty acids: C18:1{omega}7, C16:0, C16:1{omega}7, C15:0, C17:1{omega}8c, 11-Me-C18:1{omega}5t, 3-OH-C12:0). The strain displayed an unusually broad substrate spectrum. The results of DNA-DNA hybridization and physiological and biochemical tests allowed genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of the strain from all hitherto validly described Brevundimonas species. The strain therefore represent a new species, for which the name Brevundimonas vancanneytii sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain LMG 2337T (=CCUG 1797T =ATCC 14736T).
